The Gay Times
The year is 1973. The world is queer, the straights are under attack! Newly enacted Section 29 spells trouble for the already demonised heterosexuals. Nationwide backlash against the heterophobic law grips the country. The brave members of the Straight Liberation Front (SLF) lead the protest against the tyranny of the incredibly fabulous Prime Minster. The fictional archived newsprint from the Gay Times gives us an insight into those dark days that sparked the straight revolution. Inspired by the short film “Love is all you need” by Kim Rocco Shields this alternate retelling of queer history takes place in a world where the social norms of sexuality are opposites. Heterosexuals are the taboo while homosexuals are the majority. With the use of digital and film mediums I have constructed a parallel reality that is depicted through the narrative of print media which I have called “The Gay Times”.
